1 bag Granny Smith apples
1 bag firm red apples
4 sticks butter (2 sticks for each layer)
2 cups sugar
2 cups brown sugar
Lemon juice
1 T apple pie spice
1 T cinnamon
1 T nutmeg
1 teaspoon cloves
Salt
Pie crusts – Pillsbury refrigerated rolled crusts – 6 boxes

Preheat oven at 350º. Combine and Slice/peel/core all apples and pour lemon juice over them and toss. Combine both sugars together and divide into two parts. Mix spices together well and divide evenly into two parts. Begin building pie as follows in large greased pan.(like a" lunchroom" warming pan).
Bottom Layer as follows:
• Pie crusts (about four)
• Sprinkle small amount sugar over crusts from part one of the sugar combinations
• Next, ½ of sliced apples spread out evenly
• Cut up two sticks of butter and spread small portions evenly over apples
• Use remaining sugars from the first part sugar combination
• Sprinkle half the combined spices over sugar
• Sprinkle salt VERY LIGHTLY over sugar
Next Layer:
• Pie crusts (about four)
• Sprinkle small amount sugar over crusts from part two of sugar combo
• Rest of sliced apples spread out
• Cut up two sticks butter and spread over apples
• Use remaining sugars from the 2nd part sugar combination
• Sprinkle remaining spices over sugar
• Sprinkle salt VERY LIGHTLY over sugar
Top Layer:
• Cover pie with pie crusts – any left crusts, can cut out leaf shapes and decorate top of crust with leaves
• Punch holes in crusts
• Place cut out leaves over pie crust
• Sprinkle lightly with sugar
After baking about 30 minutes, and top is golden brown, cover with aluminum foil. Total baking time using oven at 350 degrees should be about a 1 ½ hours. Check frequently. Time will be reduced if recipe amount is decreased. **May adjust recipe to make smaller size as needed.
