9 eggs
1 lb butter
1 lb sugar
1 lb figs, chopped
1 lb dates, chopped
2 lb raisins
1 lb mixed peel
1 lb walnuts
1 tsp. each of cinnamon, all spice and nutmeg
1/2 cup molasses
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 cup brandy
1/2 cup red wine or orange juice
3 cups flour

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter. Add eggs and beat until creamy. Add fruit, nuts, spices and molasses in order given. Add half of flour and baking powder mixture. Pour in liquids and add the rest of the flour and baking powder mixture. Pour into 3 loaf pans.

Bake at 275 for about 2.5 hours.

Grandma Hess would assemble this cake in October to get ready for Christmas! She would put the cake in a crock with an apple and occasionally she would pour some brandy on it. By Christmas the cake would be very flavorful!
