2 lb. dried red kidney beans (I like the small ones)
2 c. chopped onion
1/2 c. sliced green onion tops
1½ T. minced garlic
2 T. parsley
1 lb. ham cut in 1 inch cubes
1 T. salt
1/2 t. pepper
1/8 t. red pepper
2 bay leaves (quartered)
1/2 t. thyme
1/8 t. basil
1 package link sausage, sliced in bite size pieces (I like Conecuh)

Soak beans overnight in cold water. Drain beans and rinse beans, then add other ingredient (except sausage). If you have a ham bone -- add that too! Cover with water, bring to a boil and simmer for 2½ to 3 hours. Add more water as needed. Cook sausage and add. Serve over white rice.
