1/4 pound unsalted butter, softened
1 cup plus 2 TB sugar
2 (12 oz) cans EVAPORATED milk
3 eggs
2 tsp vanilla or RUM
1 tsp ground cinnamon
3/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp cream of tartar

7 slices stale white bread, toasted
1/4 tsp ground ginger

Preheat oven to 450º

Place butter & sugar in bowl & mix for 5 minutes on medium speed

Add milk, eggs, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, cream of tartar & ginger

Beat on low speed about 3 minutes

Bread bread into small pieces & arrange in ungreased 8 x 8 pan.

Pour milk mix over bread & let sit 1 hour, occassionally patting down any pieces that float to top.

Bake for 20 - 25 minutes until top is well browned & mix shakes like a bowl of jelly

Remove from oven & let stand 15 minutes before serving
