I Package dry or compressed yeast
2 T lukewarm water
1 C boiling water
2 T shortening
1 1/2 t salt
3 C sifted all purpose flour

Directions:
Directions:
Sprinkle yeast in lukewarm water (100-110 degrees). Let stand 5-10 minutes to completely dissolve. Pour boiling water over shortening and salt in large bowl. Cool to lukewarm. Stir up yeast then add to the bowl.

Add half of flour, beat until smooth with spoon. Then add remaining flour, beat smooth (with spoon only).

Place dough on floured board. Pat gently with hands to shape of pizza pan (either round or rectangle). Place on greased pan. Let rise in warm place 85 degrees F until it rises double in height.

Spread with olive oil, bake 1/2 hr. at 350 - then add topping. Bake until crust is brown.

Mary Lou from Syracuse, NY wrote a note on the top of this page that said "Fran - I use a little extra water and flour than this recipe says." (There is also a note on the back that says "Bobby - call me at the bar when you get home. I'm STARVING! Debbie". But that's another story....from 1974!)
