1 cup sugar
1/3 cup water
1/4 teaspoon Cream of Tartar
Dash of salt
vanilla
2 egg whites

Directions:
Directions:
Boil the first 4 ingredients over medium low heat until clear. Cool

Beat the egg whites until soft peaks form.

Add the boiled mixture and vanilla to egg whites. Whip until stiff peaks form.

This is my friend Maryann Bergland's recipe. Leslie loved her cakes especially with this icing. I have never been able to make it like hers. I think the key is whipping it long enough.
