½ cup butter, softened
¼ - ½ cup shortening
½ cup sugar
½ tsp baking soda dissolved in 2 Tbsp boiling water
1 ½ cups flour
1 ½ cups instant oats
1 tsp salt

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350ºF. Cream butter and shortening. Add sugar and mix well. Add soda/water mixture and mix well. Whisk dry ingredients together and then add to cream mixture. Mix very well, maybe using hands near the end. Roll out thinly on a floured surface in the shape of a rectangle. Cut into squares and place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for about 15 minutes.
