In large bowl combine:

1 pkg. dry yeast
2 cups flour
1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp salt
1 tsp grated lemon or orange rind

Cut in 2 sticks butter in the flour mixture like course meal- can use 1 1/2 sticks of butter if too much

Add 2 more cups flour
1 1/4 cup warm milk
2 beaten eggs at room temperature

Combine lightly by hand. Cover batter loosely and refrigerate at least 2 hours or 2 days.

Cinnamon Apple Filling
2 or 3 cups grated apples
3/4 cup chopped nuts
1/2 cup white sugar
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
salt
1 TBSP lemon juice for tartness
Cook filling about 5 minutes and cool.

Twists- divide dough in half. Roll out 1/2 in 18 x 15 rectangle. Spread 1/2 filling on dough. Fold dougn into a 3 layer strip 15" long. Then cut in 15 strips and twist in opposite directions. Pinch to seal. Place on greased baking sheet-bake only 10-15 minutes. Burns easily. cool and frost.

Can use 1/2 cup mincemeat and candied fruit like cherries etc.
