1/4 pound unsalted butter
1 cup sugar
2 TB sugar
2 (12 oz.) cans EVAPORATED milk
3 eggs
1 tsp cinnamon
3/4 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp cream of tartar
1/4 tsp ginger
2 rsp vanilla
raisins (optional)
7 slices white bread, stale or toasted

Directions:

Preheat oven to 400º

Place butter & 1 cup sugar in a bowl & mix for 5 minutes on medium speed

Add the next 7 ingredients ( excludubg 2 TB sugar) together

Bread bread into small pieces (or cut into cubes) & arrange in an ungreased 8 x 8 pan.

Pour milk mixture over bread & let stand for 1 hour. Occassionally pat down any pieces that float.

Raisins can be added if desired

Bake for 20 - 25 minutes until top is brown & mixture shakes like jelly.

Can sprinkle 2 TB sugar on top before baking.

Remove from oven & let stand 15 minutes before serving
