1 C unsifted all-purpose flour
2 T. sugar
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
1½ T butter or margarine
2 C whole wheat flour (stone ground if possible)
¼ C rolled oats
1½ buttermilk

Directions:
Directions:
Combine, flour, sugar, baking powder, soda and salt. Cut butter (small pieces) and cut in flour mixture. Stir in the rest of the dry ingredient and form a well in the middle. Add buttermilk and mix until able to knead to form a ball. Form into 6-7 inch circle and place on a sheet or heated stone which has been lightly floured with cornmeal . Cut a deep cross in loaf for expansion.
Bake at 375º for 40 minutes. Bread should sound hollow when tapped. Coat entire loaf including the bottom with a thin coat of butter and cool on a rack.

Hint: if you have Irish bread soda: use 2 tsp and replace baking powder and baking soda.
