Sift together in bowl:
2 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp salt

Add 1 cup shortening (lard or Crisco)

1 egg with milk to make 2/3 cup total

1 cup crushed corn flakes

4 large apples peeled and sliced.
1 cup sugar
1 tsp cinnamon.

1 egg white beaten brushed on the top crust.

Glaze: 1 cup powdered sugar, 1 TBSP milk , 1/2 tsp vanilla.

Directions:

Mix the ingredients together for the crust with a pastry blender until it resembles course corn meal.

Combine in a glass measuring cup: 1 egg yolk, slightly beaten and enough milk to make 2/3 cup liquid.
Mix the egg/milk mixture with the flour mixture. Divide the dough in half. Roll 1/2 into rectangle cookie sheet 10 x 15 size. Bring the pastry up the sides of the pan. Sprinkle the corn flakes over the crust.

Slice up the apples. Combine 1 cup sugar with 1 tsp cinnamon sprinkle over the apples. Roll out the other half of pastry. Brush 1 egg white, beaten over the crust.

Bake at 400º for one hour.

Make the glaze and pour over the warm bars.
