5 cups flour
1-1/2 cups Crisco
1 cup lukewarm milk
1/2 large cake yeast or 1 pack dry yeast
2 T sugar
1 tsp salt
3 egg yolks, well beaten

Nut filling
1 lb ground walnuts
1/2 to 1 cup sugar (depends on your taste)
1/4 tsp almond extract
about 1/4 cup milk (to hold together)

Put in a large mixing bowl flour and Crisco and mix as for pie crust. Set aside.
Step #2
In another bowl or pan put lukewarm milk, yeast, sugar and salt.
Mix with wooden spoon until yeast and sugar are dissolved and let stand in a
warm place until it foams up on the top.
Step #3
Add beaten egg yolks to #2 mixture. and blend well, then pour into #1 mixture and
mix well with mixer beaters. Cover tightly and let stand overnight in refrigerator or
mix in early morning and refrigerate until after supper if you want to bake them at night.
When ready to bake, roll into balls (size of golf balls) and roll out each ball to about 6"
diameter circle and cut in 6 wedges. Put a tsp of nut filling, apricot butter, or poppy
seed on each wedge. Roll up starting at wide end and bake at 350º about 15-20 minutes
or til light brown.Cool a little then roll in powdered sugar.
