1+1/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1 large or 2 small eggs
1+3/4 cup flour
3 TB (heaping) cocoa
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup sour milk
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 cup boiling water

Directions:
Preheat oven to 250º

Cream sugar & shortening

Add egg

Sift flour, cocoa & salt

Add milk & vanilla, beating well

Add baking soda & water & continue to mix

Pour into a greased 13 x 9 baking pan

Bake 45 minutes. Begin temp at 250º then increase temp 50º every 15 minutes until cake is done
