1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
2 cups flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 cup nuts
1/2 to 3/4 cups dates
1 cup raisins, chopped
1 cup hot water
1 tsp baking soda

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º

Pour hot water over soda & raisins.Set aside

Cream shortening, add sugar & eggs. Blend well

Sift dry ingredients then stir into raisins mixture. Add to creamed mixture.

Stir in nuts & dates last thing.

Pour into baking pan of your choice & bake for 1 hour.
