1 cup sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/2 cup shortening
1 egg
1tsp vanilla
1 cup applesauce
1 cup sifted flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp soda
1 tsp baking powder
3/4 cup chopped walnuts

3/4 cup raisins (optional)

Directions:
Preheat oven to 300º

Cream shortening, gradually add sugar that has been mixed with the spices & continue to beat until light & fluffy..

Add egg& beat well

Stir in vanilla & applesauce

Add flour that's been sifted with salt, soda & baking powder & beat until smooth

Add raisins & nuts & blend well.

Bake in a greased loaf pan for 60 minutes,
