2 cup SIFTED cake flour
2 cup sugar
1/2 cup Crisco
1 tsp salt
3 squares chocolate, melted
3/4 cup + 1/2 cup milk
1/2 tsp baking powder
1+1/2 tsp baking soda
3 eggs
1 tsp vanilla

FLUFFY FROSTING:

1+1/2 cup sugar
1/8 tsp cream of tartar
1/3 cup water
2 egg whites

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350º

Mix flour,sugar,Crisco,salt,chocolate & 3/4 cup milk thoroughly by hand or mixer (medium speed) for 2 minutes

Stir in baking powder & soda

Add 1/2 cup milk, eggs, & vanilla & continue to mix/beat for another 2 minutes

Pour into 2 deep 9" cake pans prepared with Crisco & waxed paper on bottom.

Bake for about 40 minutes. Let cool in pans for 15 minutes before turning onto wire racks to cool completely before frosting

Make frosting by mixing all ingredients into the top of a double boiler & beat on high until fluffy!!
