2 eggs
1+1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1 tsp vanilla
2+1/2 cup flour
2 TB cocoa
1+1/2 cup water
1 cup buttermilk
1 tsp soda
1/2 oz red food coloring
1 tsp salt 1 TB vinegar

FROSTING:
5 TB flour
1 cup milk
1 cup butter
1 cup confectionary sugar
1 tsp vanilla

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350º

Crean shortening & sugar.
Add eggs & continue to beat atleast a minute.

Blend coloring, water,cocoa & salt. Add to shortening

Combine vanilla, vinegar & soda with buttermilk.
Add to first mixture with flour which has been sifted three times.

Bake in 2 - 9" greased & floured pans

Make frosting by cooking milk & flour until thick. Let cool.
Cream butter & sugar until fluffy
Add flour mixture & vanilla. Stir until smooth

Frost on completely cooled cake
