"As viscous as motor oil swirled in a swamp, redolent of burnt bell peppers nested in by incontinent mice and a finish reminiscent of the dregs of a stale can of Coca-Cola that someone has been using as an ashtray. Not a bad drink, though."--Excerpt from "The Moose Turd Wine Tasting" by T. A. Nonymous

Add shortening, milk, & vanilla. Beat 1 & a half minutes on low speed.

Spoon a quarter of the batter carefully over nut - lined pans. Sprinkle with grated chocolate then carefully spoon the rest of the batter on top.

Bake 35 to 40 minutes.

Let cool in pans 10 minutes, then take out of pans & cool completely on racks before frosting.

Cream butter with vanilla. Gradually add sifted confectionary sugar, creaming well until smooth & fluffy. Set a third of the frosting aside for later use or divide in half & add chocolate mix to one half & beat until smooth.

You can use both white & chocolate frostings to marblize the frosting on top of the cake. or use all chocolate.
