2 cups sugar
1/2 cup sour milk (sweet milk + 1 1/2 teaspoon vinegar or lemon juice)
4 cups flour
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 cup shortening
2 eggs, well beaten
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon salt

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs. Sift flour, measure, and sift with baking soda, nutmeg, and salt.

Add milk alternately with dry ingredients. Mix thoroughly.

Drop by teaspoonfuls onto well-oiled baking sheet. Bake in 325º oven for 12 minutes.

Makes 6 dozen cookies
