2 C Milk + 1/2 C
3/4 C Sugar
1/4 tsp.salt
2 Rounded T. flour
2 Rounded T. Corn Starch
2 Egg Yolks (saving whites for meringue)
1 T. butter
1 tsp. vanilla
9" deep dish pie crust


For Chocolate Filling:
Same as above only increase Sugar to 1 C and add 3 T. cocoa

Heat milk in double boiler, In small bowl mix sugar, salt flour and corn starch add egg yolks and slowly mix 1/2 C milk to make a smooth mixture.
Add this to milk in double boiler, stir constantly until mixture thickens. When thickened remove from heat and add butter and vanilla. Let Cool

This was Grandma Mary's recipe, I have revised a little I use 11/2 times the ingredients. I heat the milk in an eight qt. measuring cup in the microwave until warm not hot, then add the other ingredients whisk well. Cook in microwave on low to medium setting whisking every 3-4 minutes until thick. Let cool and put in pie crust. I use a meringue powder instead of egg whites for my meringue or you can use whipped cream or whipped topping
