"A man who was fond of wine was offered some grapes at dessert after dinner. "Much obliged," said he, pushing the plate aside; "I am not accustomed to take my wine in pills."--Jean Antheleme Brillat-Savarin, The Physiology of Taste

Personal Notes:
Of all of Gram's recipes, this was one of the most difficult to figure out. For the frosting she had written 4 1/2 tblsp sugar and also 2 1/2 tblsp, I went with 2 1/2 tblsp because of the water ratio. The recipe calls for an egg in the frosting but because this is a white frosting, I would assume it's just the egg white. When I would watch Gram make the syrup for the frosting, I remember her saying the syrup was ready when you can take the spoon and when lifting it up, it looks like a piece of thread going from the spoon to the pan. This was always made in a 9x13 pan. If you can figure this recipe out, it's a winner! Good luck!
