1⅓ cups sifted flour
1 tsp baking powder
¾ tsp salt
⅛ tsp black pepper
2 eggs well beaten
⅔ cups milk
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp shortening (melted)
1 (12 oz) can whole kernel corn, drained
Cooking oil for deep frying

Sift flour, baking powder, salt and pepper together into a bowl – set aside – combine eggs, milk, Worcestershire sauce and melted shortening – blend thoroughly – make a well in the center of the set aside dry ingredients – add liquid mixture all a one time and beat only until dry ingredients are moistened – mix in the corn - heat oil to 365º – when desired temperature is reached drop batter by tablespoons into the hot oil – deep fry only as many fritters as will bloat uncrowded on layer deep in oil – deep fry 2 to 3 min or until golden brown – drain fritters over hot oil a few seconds before removing to absorbent paper towels – serve hot with maple syrup
