1 cup butter
2 cups brown sugar
4 cups flour
3 large eggs
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup sugar
2 1/4 cups dates, pitted and chopped
1 cup water
1 cup pecans, chopped

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter and brown sugar till fluffy. Add eggs, one a a time. Beat well. Sift dry ingredients, add to butter mixture. Mix thoroughly. Chill.
In a saucepan, cook sugar, dates and water 10 minutes. Add nuts and chill.
Preheat oven to 400.
Divide dough into 4 equal parts. Roll each to less that 1/4" thick. Spread with date mixture and roll like a jelly roll. Chill overnight. Cut with a sharp knife into slices approximately 1/4" thick. Place on a greased baking sheet. Bake about 1 minutes.

I found that if before chilling the dough, you roll it out onto the back of a cookie sheet, then chill the dough it is easier to put the date filling onto the dough.
