1 9" layer of yellow cake
3¼ cup milk
2 pkgs instant vanilla pudding mix
¾ tsp apple pie spice
1 can apple pie filling
1 (8 oz) tub of frozen cool whip
⅔ of (12¼ oz jar) caramel ice cream topping

1 cup pecans toasted (I omitted)

1. Prepare cake and use 1 layer.

2. In a large bowl, whisk milk pudding and apple pie spice for 2 minutes. Let stand for 2 minutes or until soft-set.

3. Put cake in bottom of trifle bowl and poke holes in cake with a long wooden skewer, gradually pour a third of the caramel topping over cake. Sprinkle with ½ nuts (if using) and spread ½ of the pudding mixture.

4. Spoon pie filling over pudding, spread whipped topping over.

5. Drizzle with remaining caramel topping and pecans.

6 Refrigerate.
