Buttercream Icing


Ingredients:  
Ingredients:  
½ cup (½ stick) shortening (Crisco)
½ cup (1 stick) butter, softened
1 tsp. vanilla extract
4 cups (1 lb.) confectioners' sugar
2 tbsp. milk

Directions:
Directions:
1. In large bowl, beat shortening and butter with electric mixer until light and fluffy.
2. Beat in vanilla. Gradually add sugar, one cup at a time, beating well.
3. Alternate adding milk while adding sugar. Beat until light and fluffy.

Refrigerated in an airtight container, this icing can be stored for 2 weeks.
Rewhip before using. Also can be frozen.
 

Chocolate Buttercream Icing


Ingredients:  
Ingredients:  
First 4 ingredients - same as above
¾ cup cocoa
3-4 tbsp. milk

Directions:
Directions:
Same as above, only add the cocoa before the sugar.
For Chocolate Mocha Icing: Substitute cold brewed strong coffee
for milk in Chocolate Buttercream recipe.
