2 cups raisin
1 cup water
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup shortening
2 teaspoons salt
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon both nutmeg and allspice
2 cups sugar
2 eggs (beaten)
1 teaspoon vanilla
4 cups sifted flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup chopped nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Boil water and raisins for 5 minutes. Make sure you have 1/2 cup liquid. Add soda, salt and spices to raisin mixture.
Cream sugar and shortening thoroughly; add eggs, vanilla and cooled raisin mixture. Add flour, baking powder and nuts.
Chill dough. Drop by teaspoonfuls on greased cookie sheets. Bat at 400 for 12-15 minutes.
