Ingredients:

Tomato Sauce Layer
¼ c. olive oil
½ c onion, finely chopped
½ c chopped green pepper
1 garlic clove crushed
2 T chopped parsley
1 ½ lbs ground beef
1 – 2lb can of Italian tomatoes, drained
2 – 6oz cans of tomato paste
2 T sugar
1 tsp salt
2 T dried oregano
1 T dried basil
¼ tsp pepper

Noodles
1 T olive oil
½ lb of lasagna noodles (approx 9-10 noodles)
1 T salt

Cottage Cheese Layer
1 lb cottage cheese
1 egg

Cheese layer
1 – 3 oz can of parmesan cheese
1 lb mozzarella cheese

Directions:
Directions:
In a medium-size pan, sauté onion, pepper, garlic, and parsley for 5 min in the olive oil.
Then add the hamburger, and cook until brown
Add the remaining tomato sauce ingredients and mix well
Bring the sauce to a boil, then let simmer for 3 hrs
Fill a large pot with 2-3 quarts of water, and add the olive oil and salt.
Cook Lasagna noodles until al dente (for best results cook the noodles in two batch, not necessary however).
In a separate bowl just before assembling, mix cottage cheese and egg together
When its time to assembly, in a greased 9x13 pan layer:
Noodles
Cottage cheese
Tomato sauce
Mozzarella and parmesan cheese
Repeat the layering two more times
Bake at 350° for 45-50 minutes until the top is golden brown

Notes: Grandma found this recipe in a magazine years ago, and she made it her own. Grandma, being the good ‘Ol German-American she was, modified the recipe to suit her tastes and budget. The changes she made are as follows:
She used Weston Vegetable oil instead of olive oil
Cottage cheese was substituted for Ricotta cheese
Grandma used plain ‘ol canned tomatoes instead of the Italian variety.
