1 c. shortening
½ c. sugar
2 eggs
1 c. brown sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2¼ c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 bag semi-sweet chocolate chips
½ c. chopped nuts (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
1. Cream shortening, sugar, eggs, brown sugar, and vanilla together. Add in flour, soda, and salt.
2. Mix well. Add in chocolate chips and nuts.
3. Roll in to balls and place on greased cookie sheets and bake at 375º for 8-10 minutes.

Tips: Don't substitute butter for shortening. Don't pack your flour so the dough isn't too dry. Don't bake too long. When you can see the bottoms beginning to brown up the sides of the cookie and the tops are golden, remove. They can sit on the hot sheet and firm up a bit before you move them to a cooling rack.
