1/2 cup shortening
3/4 cup sugar
1 egg
1 1/4 cup molasses
1 tsp nutmeg
4 1/2 cups flour
2 tsp soda
1 tsp salt
2 tsp ginger
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp cloves
1 cup water

Combine shortening, sugar, egg and molasses. Mix well. Add dry ingredients then water, stirring until smooth.

Drop by teaspoon onto lightly greased baking sheet. Bake at 400 degrees for 8-10 minutes.

Frost with lemon icing.
