Ingredients: 1 two-layer Butter Cake, I prefer Duncan's 1 16 oz. jar (Robertsons) imported English Strawberry Preserves Fresh Strawberries 2 cartons Whipping Cream (16 oz.) 1/4 cup Confectioners Sugar 1/2 tsp. Vanilla

Directions: |
Directions:Bake cake according to package directions. After cooling, spread one layer with the strawberry preserves, saving several strawberries for decoration. Place second layer on top. Secure with toothpicks and chill.
Add confectioners sugar and the vanilla to the whipping cream. Beat until very thick. Remove toothpicks from cake. Cover top and sides of cake with whipped cream. Garnish with reserved strawberries. Chill so that flavors blend. Add candles and have a party! |

Notes: Mother and Aunt Florrie always had this cake for the children's birthdays. Although they always made the cake from scratch, it is no longer necessary because package cakes have become so good. Since this cake was only made for birthday parties, it was very popular with all the children, part of the ritual of growing up.
