½ cup butter, softened
½ cup shortening
2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
⅛ teaspoon salt
3 egg yolks
½ teaspoon vanilla
3 and ¼ cups flour

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 300 degrees.
Beat butter for 30 seconds.
Add sugar, baking soda, cream of tartar and salt. Beat until combined.
Beat in egg yolks and vanilla.
Add flour, beating in gradually.

Shape into 1 inch balls.
Place 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake at 300 degrees for 25 minutes. Do not let edges burn!
Cool for 1 minute on cookie sheet and then remove to cooling rack. Cool completely.
