1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup icing sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 t almond extract
1 t vanilla
2 1/2 cup flour
1 t salt
A few drops red food colouring

Directions:
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350º.
2. Cream butter, shortening, icing sugar, egg and flavourings together.
3. Blend in flour and salt.
4. Divide dough in half and mix/knead one half with food colouring.
5. Divide each ball of dough into 1/2 inch size balls.
6. Roll one ball of each colour into little ropes. Place side by side and roll and twist together to form into a candy cane shape.
7. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet for about 9 minutes or until set and slightly brown on the edges.

Not too much flour or the little ropes will crumble when rolling.
Use part shortening or dough will be too moist.
