Ingredients:  
Ingredients:  
1 c. sugar
c. lard or oleo
1 c. raisins ?
1⅓ c. water or cold coffee
1 tsp. cinnamon
tsp cloves

1 tsp. soda
2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder

Directions:
Directions:
Boil first 6 ingredients for 3 minutes. Dissolve soda in boiling water and add to first mixture which has been cooled, add flour and baking powder. Bake in large pan in moderate oven. May add c. nuts if desired.
Sometimes I use dates in place of raisins or some of each, and serve with whipped cream or a lemon sauce. Also can add enough oatmeal for cookies.
