1⅓ c. water or cold coffee
1 tsp. cinnamon
¼ tsp cloves

1 tsp. soda
2 c. flour

Directions:
Boil first 6 ingredients for 3 minutes. Dissolve soda in boiling water and add to first mixture which has been cooled, add flour and baking powder. Bake in large pan in moderate oven. May add ½ c. nuts if desired.
Sometimes I use dates in place of raisins or some of each, and serve with whipped cream or a lemon sauce. Also can add enough oatmeal for cookies.

Personal Notes:
This is from my mother-in-law, Jessie Hansen and is the way she wrote it out for me when I was first married to her son. Where I have the question marks I couldn't read the old recipe very well
