1 1/2 cups boiling water
1 cup oatmeal
1/2 cup shortening or margarine
2 cups sugar (one white, one brown)
2 eggs
1 1/2 flour
1 teaspoon each of cinnamon and baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup raisins or nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Pour boiling water over oatmeal and let stand for 20 minutes. Cream shortening and sugars. Add eggs and blend well.
Add sugar mixture to oatmeal. Sift dry ingredients together and add to the oatmeal mixture. Fold in raisins or nuts.
Pour batter into a 9 x 13 x 2" pan. Bake at 350 for 35-40 minutes.

FOR FROSTING:

Mix 1/4 lb. melted butter, 3/4 cup brown sugar, 1 cup coconut, 4 Tablespoons canned milk and 1/2 cup nuts.
Spread over warm cake; place cake back in oven. Use broiler to brown the frosting (watch carefully or it will burn).
