For squares:
1 c. sifted cake flour
5 tbsp. powdered sugar
½ c. butter
1 can drained sour cherries
1¼ c. sugar
¼ c. flour
¼ tsp. salt
¾ tsp. baking powder
2 beaten eggs
¾ c. chopped nuts
1 tsp. vanilla
For cherry sauce:
1 c. cherry juice
¼ c. water
1 tsp. lemon juice
½ c. sugar
1 rounded tbsp. cornstarch

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350°. Mix together cake flour, powdered sugar, and butter until creamy. Put into a lightly greased pan. Bake 15 minutes. Then mix sugar, flour, salt, and baking powder with drained cherries. Add beaten eggs, vanilla, and nuts. Put this mixture into baked crust. Bake 30 minutes. Serve with whipped cream or cherry sauce. For cherry sauce, combine ingredients and boil for 2-3 minutes, stirringly constantly. For more red color, add food coloring. Cool. Serve on top of squares.
