1 ½ cups confectionary sugar
1 cup butter softened

1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla

2 ¼ c flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoons cream of tartar
¼ teaspoon salt
Mix tint green and red
sugar crystals in same colors

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350º

Mix dry ingredients in a bowl.

Cream sugar and butter, Once fluffy add egg and vanilla. Add food color if desired- I make one batch red and one batch green.

Add dry ingredients until well mixed.

Chill until firm but not hard or store in fridge until ready to bake. Let warm to room temperature.

When ready to bake roll into small balls and place on cookie sheet spaced with several inches on all sides.
Gently flatten each ball with a fork and add sugar crystals .

Bake 350 5-8 minutes

Got this recipe when Mary was in brownies! We made cookies as a troop and this was on of my co leader's cookie recipes. Such great memories.
