⅓ c. butter (can use shortening or margarine)
½ c. brown sugar
½ c. white sugar
1 egg, well beaten
½ tsp. baking soda
1 tbsp. hot water
½ tsp. vanilla
⅛ tsp. salt
1½ c. sifted flour
1½ c. chocolate chips
Nuts, if desired

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350°. Cream butter and white and brown sugars. Add egg. Dissolve baking soda in boiling water and add, with vanilla. Add flour and chocolate chips. Drop balls of dough onto greased baking sheet. Bake for 15 minutes or until light brown in color. Recipe can be doubled.
