2/3 c shortening (cooking oil)
1 lb. light brown sugar
2 3/4 c. flour
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
3 eggs
1 c nuts
1 (6 oz) pkg. chocoate OR butterscotch chips

Directions:

Blend 2/3 c oil with Imperial Pure Cane Brown Sugar: mix well.
Sift together flour, baking powder, salt.
To oil mixture, add eggs, one at a time, beeating well after each addition. Blend in dry ingredients.
Stir in chocolate chips and nuts

Spread in greased 15 X 10 X 1 pan. Bake at 350º for 25-30 minutes. When almost cool, cut into 2 inch squares. Makes about 4 dozen bars.

I found two recipes for Mom's chiperoo bars - that we all loved! One had the directions as found above and the other directions were this:

Stir all together. Put in 9X13 and bake at 350 for 30. Guess you can choose which directions you want! LOL
