Mix:

½ c. soft shortening
1 c. brown sugar (packed)
1 egg

Stir in:
1 Tbs. cream
½ tsp. vanilla

Sift and stir in:

1 ¾ c. flour
½ tsp. soda
½ tsp. cream of tartar
½ tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
Mix and divide into 2, 11X ? pieces (couldn't read this number. I don't think it matters really.)
Roll between 2 pieces of wax paper.
Place date mixture over each piece and roll up. Chill overnight or for several hours.
Slice and bake on cookie sheet for 10 min. or until brown.

3/4 lb. pitted dates (cut up)
1/3 c. water
1/3 c. sugar

Cook until slightly thickened. Stir constantly. Remove from heat. Cool. Stir in 1/2 c finely chopped pecans.

Okay, these are the cookies that Momma made that I think the Ice Box Cookies taste just like them. I absolutely love the taste of these cookies!
