one 19 oz. can chickpeas drained
1/4 c. unsalted butter softened
3 oz. cream cheese softened
1 garlic clove minced
3 tbsp. lemon juice
crackers or pita toasts

For a vegan option:
do not drain the chickpeas
substitute 2 oz. tahini paste and 3 tbsp. olive oil for the butter and cream cheese

Directions:
Directions:
In a food processor or blender puree all the ingredients except for the crackers or toast until smooth. Add salt and pepper to taste. Transfer the spread to a bowl and serve with the crackers or pita toasts.
