1 16 oz bag of Navy or Northern beans, rinsed and picked over
Ham Hocks or left over Ham, bone and fat.
Salt and Pepper

Directions:
Directions:
Place rinsed beans in cold water and soak overnight.
Next day drain and cover again with water
Bring to a boil and Place Ham Hock or Ham pieces in with beans.
Boil at a simmer for 1½ - 2 hours.
Add Salt and Pepper to taste.

Another great memory was having a ham dinner at Grandma Rose Johnson knowing that the next day we would get bean soup. She always used the bone, leftover ham pieces and fat to add flavor to the soup.
Many add onion, carrots etc. but she just used beans and meat served with homemade bread. This soup is creamier the next day.
