1 C Molasses
2 C white syrup (1pt) white corn syrup
3 ½ C sugar
2 C shortening - Crisco
1 C hot water
1 T. baking soda
2 t cloves - ground
2 t vanilla
½ t anise oil
1 t salt or a little less
11 to 12 C flour

Directions:
Directions:
Mix all ingredients. Roll into rolls the diameter of a quarter or so. Put rolls on a cookie sheet or whatever and refrigerate overnight. Cut into small pieces. Bake on a greased cookie sheet or use parchment paper. Bake at 350 for about 8 min. (Don’t cook them too hard).

Annabella Cochran got this recipe for cookies from her friend Marie Fuerstenace in January 1984. Our family didn’t care for their “exotic” taste. Bill Proses looked at the recipe and said, “Peppernuts! These are an old family favorite, ferrernoose.” He loves them. These cookies were his dad’s favorite.

There was no time or temp on the recipe. I would cut down the ingredients. 600 cookies is a bunch of cookies!
