1 can ketchup
7 cups water or 2 liter dr pepper or root beer
3 1/2 cups apple cider vinegar
2 cups light brown sugar
2 cups sugar
3 1/2 tablespoons black pepper
3 1/2 tablespoons ground mustard
1/2 cup lemon juice
1/3 cup Worcestershire sauce
a pureed onion
1 tablespoon liquid smoke

Directions:
Directions:
In a large pot combine all ingredients. Bring mixture to a boil. Reduce heat to a simmer. Cook uncovered, stirring frequently. I let it simmer on very low heat for several hours depending on how long it takes to thicken up, usually overnight.
