4 cups confectioners' sugar
1 cup shortening [Optional: Substitute with cup shortening and cup unsalted butter.]
2 Tbsp. water
1 tsp. vanilla extract

[Optional] Food coloring

Directions:
Directions:
In a large mixing bowl, combine sugar, shortening, water, and vanilla. Beat on low speed to combine, then beat on medium speed for a full 5 minutes. [It won't look like icing at first, but it will after the full 5 minutes!]

[Tip: For colored icing, add a drop or two of food coloring.]

Note: If you are not using this recipe for decorating, but just want frosting for a cake, you can thin the icing by adding 3 Tbsp. of corn syrup or water.
