1½ cups dried beans
½ pound of salt pork diced
2 cups stewed tomatoes
2 tbsp chopped onion
½ cup chopped celery
¼ cup green pepper
1 tsp salt
⅛ tsp pepper
2 tbsp molasses

Directions:

Cover beans with cold water and bring slowly to boil. Drain, cover again with cold water. Let simmer until skins burst. Pour off liquid and add all other ingredients. Put in bean pot and bake slowly. 275º for 6 hours

Nothing like baked beans made in a bean pot. Bacon can be substituted for salt pork.
We had a set of stairs in our house and Mom sent Allen up the stairs to get the bean pot. Allan slipped and came down the stairs on his butt, but he saved the bean pot. Allan used to come and stay with us, he was 10 years younger than Mom. I seem to remember someone else coming down the stairs with a lemon pie but the pie didn't make it down in one piece.
