Dough:

6½ - 7 c flour
¾ c butter
1 c white sugar
1 c brown sugar
3 eggs
¾ c sour milk
2 t vanilla
1 t soda
3 t baking powder
½ t salt

Filling:

3 - 4 c applesauce
2 c raisins
1 c dates, cut into small pieces
1 c brown sugar
2 t vanilla
2 t butter

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter and sugar gradually. Cream well, and add sifted dry ingredients alternately with milk. Add vanilla. Chill. Roll dough to ⅛ inch thickness; cut dough with floured cookie cutter. Mix all filling ingredients together and bring to a boil. Boil 1 minute, then cool. Place 1 t filling on each piece of dough. Place second piece of dough over filling. Press each together. Bake until lightly brown at 400 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes.

This was my favorite Christmas cookie Grandma Helen would make every year. I make sure they are made every year as well. This recipe was written in Grandma Helen's handwriting.
