1 Cup soft Shortening (half butter)
1 cup sifted confectioners sugar
1 egg
1 ½ tsp almond extract (I use peppermint)
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 ½ cups sifted flour
t tsp. salt
½ tsp. red food coloring
½ cup crushed peppermint candy
½ cup sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Mix together shortening, butter, conf. sugar
Add egg and extracts
Sift together flour and salt.
Add to shortening mixture.
Mix well
Divide the dough in 2 halves.
To one half add ½ tsp red food coloring.
Roll 1 tsp. of red colored dough and 1 tsp. of uncolored dough into 4" strips
Lay the strips side by side and press lightly together, then twist and curl into candy cane shape.
Put on a parchment lined cookie sheet.
Bake at 375º for about 9 minutes.
Mix the crushed peppermint candy and sugar and spoon onto each cookie while hot.
