1 large head green cabbage
2 lbs ground beef, lean
1 onion, chopped
1/2 tsp season salt
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 egg, beaten
black pepper to taste
parsley

bread crumbs if needed
tomato sauce
tomato soup

If you want Steelton version, add 1 can of sauerkraut on top of tomato sauce, before baking..

Take head of cabbage and cut out core, removing core about 2 inches down. Cut in a square.

Heat large pot of water to boiling. Place cabbage into pot. Using fork to hold cabbage and tongs to pull leaves loose from head; pull leaves loose and let in pot till wilted.
Remove to colander to cool.
Keep this up till you get down to small size leaves, then take cabbage out of pot and cool in colander Remove pot from heat.
In large bowl, mix ingredients into meat mixture adding egg and mixing well. If meat is not firm enough to make balls then add some bread crumbs to tighten up mixture.

Spray 9 x 19 pan with cooking spray. Take cabbage leaf and add spoonful of meat mixture. Fold in sides and roll to stem end. Take toothpick and draw through cabbage to hold together.Place in prepared pan. Continue rolling cabbage till meat is all.

Mix tomato sauce and soup together and place on top of cabbage rolls. If adding sauerkraut, top with that.
Bake 350* for about 1 hour or till meat thermometer reads done for beef.
