¾ cup butter
½ cup sugar
2 eggs
½ teaspoon cinnamon
1 cup candied cherries
½ cup brown sugar
2 ¾ cup sifted flour
1 tsp. baking powder
½ tsp. baking soda
¼ tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs. Cream well. Put all dry ingredients in. Add cherries and nuts. Shape into a roll 1½ inches in diameter. Wrap in foil. Put in refrigerator overnight. Slice, place on greased cookie sheet. Cook 8 to 10 minutes on 375º.

This must be a very old recipe since the name has "Icebox" in the title. Even as late as the 1960's, some still referred to the refrigerator as the "Icebox". Note the use of candied cherries. These were typically used for fruitcakes, but since they were readily available in winter, recipes emerged that included them. James remembers going to the grocery to buy this candied fruit for his mother, Lois. He talks about these wonderful cookies that she made for many years.
